Answer: Yes, servicemembers in the National Guard and Reserves who meet the eligibility requirements may apply for VA loans.

Determining Eligibility
Current or discharged servicemembers in the National Guard or Reserves are eligible to apply for a VA home loan if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • They have served on active duty for at least 90 consecutive days during wartime.

  • They have served on active duty for at leat 181 consecutive days during peacetime.

  • Have six years of in service time if they haven't been called to active duty for the periods specified above.

Once a servicemember determines his or her eligibility, the next step is to gather the required documents showing proof of service followed by applying for a Certificate of Eligibility.
