Wanting to help servicemembers and their families, Mr. Mealey created New Beginnings – a Web site dedicated to matching sponsors with military families seeking help.
How to Apply
Military families in need of assistance can make a request for help via e-mail. When seeking assistance, New Beginnings asks that applicants keep their request to two short paragraphs or less. Because this program strictly helps military families, individuals making a request must confirm their military affiliation.
Once the military affiliation is confirmed the request is assigned an ID number and posted on the New Beginnings Web site. In an effort to protect the applicant's privacy, New Beginnings will not publish e-mail addresses or other contact information, thus the reason for the ID number.
How the Program Works
Individuals, also called sponsors, read the requests for assistance and make their selection accordingly. When the sponsor chooses a military family they'd like to help, they contact New Beginnings via e-mail and reference the ID number associated with the posted request.
To protect everyone involved, New Beginnings screens the sponsor before releasing the contact information of the person seeking assistance.
Is Financial Assistance Guaranteed?
New Beginnings operates by matching sponsors with military families who are experiencing financial difficulties. Because the program is sponsor-based, it's impossible to guarantee financial assistance.
However, for military families experiencing a financial crisis, this is an excellent resource. Since 2008, New Beginnings has matched 175+ military families with sponsors.
