Diminish Feelings of Loneliness by Reaching Out To Other Military Families

A Tip For Coping With Holidays and Deployments

By , About.com Guide

Traditionally, the holidays are a time when families gather together to share in the festivities. But for many military spouses, children and parents of deployed servicemembers, the absence of their loved one during the holiday season exacerbates the feelings of loneliness.

You're Not Alone
Family members of deployed Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines have an excellent source of immediate support: other military families, particularly those from their loved one's unit.

If you're having a difficult time coping with the holidays during a deployment, don't hesitate to reach out to other military families.

There's a good chance other family members in your loved one's unit are experiencing similar feelings of loneliness and sadness. Many may have the same questions you do about handling the holidays, kids and all the other variables of mixing holidays and deployments.

By taking the initiative, you'll not only help yourself through this difficult time, but others too.
