Belated Celebrations

By , About.com Guide

When a servicemember is due back from deployment days or weeks after a holiday or special occasion, many military families opt for belated celebrations. Some have low-key festivities on the actual holiday, followed by a full-blown event after their loved one returns.

For example, a military wife may encourage her kids to tear into gifts on Christmas morning, yet she keeps a passel of presents piled under the tree for a mid-January celebration when her husband returns home from deployment.

The same philosophy holds true for birthdays, anniversaries and other holidays throughout the year.

If this is something you're considering, don't let dates on a calendar hold you back. Get creative, have fun and enjoy one, two or three celebrations of the same holiday or special occasion.
