New Beginnings for Military Families
Shortly after troops began deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, Roger J. Mealey Jr, a retired businessman and veteran in Palm Springs, Florida developed a sponsor-based program. Since 2008, generous sponsors have helped more than 175 military families through New Beginnings for Military Families.
How to Become a Sponsor
Becoming a sponsor at New Beginnings is a quick and easy process. All you need to do is visit their Web site. Once there, scroll down until you see numerous posts from military families in need. You'll notice that each post contains an ID number.
When you decide which family you'd like to help, click on the blue e-mail icon. This will activate your e-mail program and automatically fill in the New Beginnings e-mail address. In the subject line and body of the e-mail make sure and state the ID number of the family you'd like to help.
Screening Process
In an effort to protect everyone involved, New Beginnings screens both the applicants and the sponsors.
Because this program services military families in need, anyone requesting help must provide proof of their military affiliation. New Beginnings does not publish the applicants contact number, thus the reason for the ID Number.
As a potential sponsor, when you answer a family's request you must provide your contact information within the body of the e-mail. Once New Beginnings receives your e-mail they'll send you the e-mail address of the family you're interested in sponsoring.
As soon as you receive the military family's e-mail address you may contact them to discuss their needs and explain how you can help.
