When preparing a care package for a deployed servicemember, you'll want to have the necessary supplies on hand. To get started, here's a list of shipping materials you'll need:
  • Sturdy Boxes
  • Customs Declaration Form 2976-A
  • Customs Declaration Form Envelopes
  • Shipping Tape
  • Address Labels (Optional)
All of these items are available at U.S. Post Offices. For added convenience, the U.S. Postal Service will ship you a free Military Carekit containing:
  • 2 Priority Mail large flat rate boxes.
  • 2 Priority Mail medium flat rate boxes.
  • 1 roll of Priority Mail tape.
  • Priority Mail address labels.
  • 6 Customs Declaration Forms.
  • 6 Customs Declaration Form Envelopes.
To order your kit call 1-800-610-8734.

With the exception of the Customs Declaration Form 2976-A, using supplies from the U.S. Postal Service and shipping your care packages via Priority Mail isn't a requirement.

If you prefer using standard cardboard boxes, make sure they're sturdy and in good shape.
